Herbs for My Dog – Mullein
When we first adopted our dog, he had issues with regurgitation. Switching to a slow feeding bowl helped a little, but it did not eliminate the issue. He also had a dry cough that would come on in the middle of the night. We took him to the vet, who thought it was a passing viral illness and advised us to monitor. I felt deeply bothered by what was happening to my fur baby and decided to trial 2 drops of mullien tincture in his food at mealtime. I was surprised at how fast the tincture worked for these intestinal and respiratory issues.
Mullien is an herb that is famous for it’s respiratory uses, but it is actually a very good anti-spasmotic for smooth muscle tissue. It just so happens that smooth muscle is found both in the digestive tract and the respiratory tract. So our dog got a two for one deal when taking Mullien.
I found that when I would skip the mullien for a meal or two that the regurgitation would return. Now about 1.5 years later, he still takes mullien 2 drops in his breakfast daily as maintenance.
