Umeshu with Roses / Umeshu with Rosemary

Today, my husband and I took a trip to Porter Square in Cambridge, MA, to eat at one of our favorite Japanese food restaurants, Cafe Mami.  Afterwards, we drove to Reliable Market (an Asian supermarket in Somerville)  just to browse.  While there, I came across a bottle of Umeshu.  I was so excited.  I haven’t had umeshu in years.

As I held the bottle in my hands, my mind started running through all the possible herbs I could gently infuse in the fruity beverage.  I settled on rose and rosemary.  When I got home, I filled two 8-oz jars with umeshu and then added dried rose petals to one and a sprig of rosemary to the other. I let them sit for 3 days and then strained the herbs out of the drink.  Both versions of the infused umeshu were very tasty.
